November's Exclusive Driver & Rider Topic Videos...

Last Month's Driver & Rider Topics...

Every week my driver and rider clients get an exclusive weekly topic video on a racing mental skills related topic - below is a summary of some of the ideas & takeaways and from this month's videos...

Here's a brief summary of what we've been exploring last month..

Smarter Not Harder

In this video, we explore the concept of working smarter, not harder in racing. I draw inspiration from the book "Smarter, Not Harder" by Dave Asprey, emphasizing the importance of mental skills in performance. I encourage you to focus on recovery, planning, and staying calm to optimize your racing abilities. I also discuss the benefits of unconscious competence and keeping emotions in check to achieve peak performance.

What A State

We discuss the importance of managing one's state when participating in racing. I explain that state what state is a combination of and how these factors can impact performance. I emphasize the significance of checking in with yourself and being aware of your state. I provide tips on setting and maintaining a positive state. Additionally, I highlight the influence of emotions and the importance of preparing and maximizing one's state before a race weekend.

This video discusses the concept of thresholds and their impact on performance and mental well-being. I highlight that thresholds are not reliable triggers for action and emphasize the importance of consistently checking in with oneself and implementing tools and routines regardless of how one feels. I stress that maintaining optimal conditions and taking preemptive action is key to performing at one's best. Reflect on your approach to thresholds and consider the importance of routine and process.

The Problem With HRV

This video discusses the problem with HRV (Heart Rate Variability). I explain that the issue lies not with HRV itself or its measurement, but rather in how it is interpreted by apps and systems. I share my own HRV data and discuss the importance of context when analyzing HRV readings. He emphasizes the need to consider different factors to accurately understand and respond to HRV data. You are encouraged to use HRV as a compass, but not to blindly follow it without considering the bigger picture.

This video delves into the fundamental understanding of the pre-performance routine for drivers before they hit the track. I explain the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 process, emphasizing the importance of each step and the tools involved. I highlight the significance of dumping physical tension, mastering breathing practices, keeping notes, visualization, and setting the right mental state before performance. I stress the value of having a structured process, linking it to mental skills being just as crucial as technical and physical skills in motor racing. I invite you to share their thoughts and questions, offering personalized guidance in future sessions.
